Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 23, 2026

NorCal Lost Pet respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you provide when using our website, lost-pet reporting system, recovery services, and related communications.

Information We Collect

When you submit a lost-pet report, contact us, or use our services, we may collect information including your name, email address, telephone number, location information, information about your pet or animal, photographs, last-known-location information, sightings, recovery information, and other information you voluntarily provide.

We may also collect technical information necessary to operate and protect our websites and online services.

How We Use Your Information

Information you provide may be used to:

  • Respond to lost-pet reports and inquiries.
  • Communicate with you regarding a lost-pet or recovery case.
  • Coordinate searches, sightings, trail cameras, drone operations, and other recovery activities.
  • Provide case updates and request additional information.
  • Maintain operational and recovery records.
  • Improve NorCal Lost Pet services and educational resources.
  • Protect the security and integrity of our systems.

SMS/Text Messaging

If you provide your mobile telephone number and expressly consent to receive text messages, NorCal Lost Pet may send SMS or MMS messages relating to your lost-pet report, recovery case, or requested services.

Messages may include report confirmations, requests for additional information, search coordination, deployment or appointment information, case status updates, sighting information, recovery notifications, and responses to your questions.

Message frequency varies depending on the activity associated with your case. Message and data rates may apply.

You may reply STOP at any time to opt out of text messages. You may reply HELP for assistance.

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchasing or receiving services.

Mobile Information and SMS Consent

NorCal Lost Pet does not share, sell, rent, or otherwise provide your mobile telephone number, SMS opt-in information, or messaging consent to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Information may be provided to service providers when necessary to operate our communications systems or provide requested services, subject to appropriate privacy and confidentiality protections. SMS consent itself is not transferred to another business for that business's marketing purposes.

This explicit non-sharing language is particularly important because Twilio states that campaigns can be rejected when mobile opt-in information may be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Information Sharing

NorCal Lost Pet may share limited information when reasonably necessary to assist with a lost-animal recovery, such as with animal shelters, veterinary facilities, animal control agencies, rescue organizations, search personnel, or other resources involved in locating or recovering an animal.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect people, animals, property, or our services.

We do not sell personal information for marketing purposes.

Public Lost-Pet Information

Certain information associated with a missing animal may be intentionally made public when appropriate for recovery efforts. This may include the animal's photograph, description, approximate lost location, case information, flyer information, or public sighting information.

We seek to avoid publishing unnecessary private information about the pet owner.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information under our control. However, no Internet-based system can guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

Information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to manage a recovery case, maintain operational records, meet legal or business requirements, and improve lost-pet recovery services.

Your Choices

You may contact NorCal Lost Pet to request correction or deletion of personal information when appropriate.

SMS recipients may opt out of text messaging at any time by replying STOP.

Third-Party Services

Our websites and systems may use third-party providers for services such as hosting, mapping, email, SMS communications, and other operational functions. Those providers may process limited information necessary to provide their services.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The current version will be published on this page with its effective date.
